NASIONAL CORRUPTION WATCH BALI
DENPASAR – Police Inspector MDP, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Kuta Police, has reportedly tested positive for narcotics following a urine test conducted by the Bali Police’s Directorate of Drug Investigation.
The case has drawn public attention after Senior Commissioner Ariasandy, Head of Public Relations at the Bali Police, confirmed the information, according to several local media reports.
Responding to the report, Wong Kok Liang, chairman of the Bali chapter of the National Corruption Watch (NCW), better known as Mr. Donnox Wong, welcomed the police’s decision to conduct urine tests on its personnel, describing the move as an important step toward strengthening internal accountability.
However, he said the process should not end with internal checks if investigators find evidence of wrongdoing.
“There should be no double standards in law enforcement. If members of the public are prosecuted for narcotics-related offences, then law enforcement officers found to have committed similar violations must also face a transparent legal process in accordance with the law. Protecting the integrity of the institution is far more important than protecting individual officers,” Donnox Wong said.
He said allegations of drug abuse involving police officers were especially concerning because they could undermine public confidence in law enforcement.
NCW Bali also called for the investigation to be conducted professionally and transparently. If sufficient evidence is found, the organization said the case should proceed through both the criminal justice system and disciplinary proceedings under the police code of ethics.
“Taking firm action against officers found to have violated the law would strengthen public confidence in the Indonesian National Police and demonstrate the institution’s commitment to accountability. The public will support efforts to clean up the institution as long as they are carried out objectively, transparently and without favoritism,” he said.
NCW Bali also urged the public to respect the presumption of innocence while the investigation is ongoing. At the same time, it encouraged the Bali Police to keep the public informed of developments in the case to help maintain confidence in the country’s law enforcement system.
